Do you think that it would be good to be able to classify healthy foods and unhealthy foods at the first sigh? Although Nutrition Facts labels are great and give consumers a great deal of valuable information, they aren't as noticeable as the company’s marketing advertisement on the fronts of packages. Front-of-package nutrition labeling is one of the hottest topics in food marketing today. The aim should be to come up with symbols that would be used on all foods and would make the healthiest foods easy to spot, and the least healthy products easy to stay away from.
The food industry tried to redo an industry-wide system after fail last time. That program was called “Smart Choices”. Just last week, the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Food Marketing Institute announced that they would try again to design a front-of-package labeling . The Institute of Medicine recently suggested that a credible front-of-package labeling system should concentrate on calories and three nutrients (saturated fat, Tran’s fat and sodium). The food industry try to make this clear by using green, yellow, or red traffic light symbols, as the British government has urged companies there to use instead of repeating the Nutrition Facts panel
After I read this news, in my opinion, this system is quite useful for all consumers who usually misunderstand the front-package labels and this system also helpful to eliminate terrible food marketing strategies. Therefore, consumers do not have to worry about hard understanding labels. They can easily choose and notice the good quality food and have more convenient and healthier lives. Even though this system is such a smart choice, it is a slow process. However, the association should be reasonable and credible for ensure the full beneficial goods before selling them in the markets and supermarkets
